The CCTV shows our caravan being stolen in July 2006. Solving the crime has seemed unlikely until Chris broadcast the CCTV...
here is an update...the police contacted me this week to tell me that the caravan has been found on a site in Brecon Wales!!! (This amazing co-incidence coming just weeks after Chris put the CCTV on the show in May!!) - Here is what seems to have happened......a caravan site owner in Powys seems to be saying that he fell for a sob story and bought our caravan from someone who needed a quick sale around 2 and a half years ago for £4000. He apparantly cannot remember who he bought it off and has no paperwork. He then sold on the caravan to a couple for £5000 at some point. The couple recently wanted to take the caravan from the site and when the site owner would not let them, they contacted the police...who then found out that it was our stolen caravan. !!!!!Our insurers tell us that the couple were shocked and wanted to keep the caravan...our insurers sold them the caravan on the 6th June 2009 for £3000.
It would have been extra nice if our insurers had told us it had been found and given us the cahnce to buy it back cheaply, as we have lost the £500 excess, have more expensive insurance premiums etc: etc:
I'll keep you informed as the tangled web unfolds ......but if you know of any site owners (especially ones in Powys) that may be duped into buying stolen vans due to their apparent innocence and commendable trust in human nature, then please assist the poor souls by pointing them in the direction of CRIS/HPI and maybe their local police station.
Many, many thanks to Chris for broadcasting the CCTV, maybe it will help the poor site owner recall who he bought the caravan from?!
