I'm not impressed with this years flu jab.
Each year I'm offered a flu jab as they deem me to be at risk because I have M/S and each year I don't know what is the best thing to do as the jab nearly always makes me ill but flu could make me very ill.
For the last 4 yrs I've declined the jab and luckily I've avoided catching the flu, this year because of the added dangers swine flu can cause, I decided to have the normal flu jab followed by the swine flu jab when it's available.
4 weeks ago I had the normal flu jab 4hrs later I was vomiting and running to the toilet it took me 4 days to get over that, in the mean time the twins started with a bad cold which then progressed into flu. I thinking "no problem" I've had the Flu jab continued to help Linda look after them on Mondays and Tuesdays. With in days Linda and I went down with it, today is the first day that I've been able to get back to "normal" so the jab didn't work for that strain of flu, I know this was not swine flu as we did not have the very high temperatures that are associated with swine flu.
I was informed by my Doctors today that the swine flu jabs are now being done at the surgery they will give me an appointment once they've inoculated all the pregnant patients and other very high risk cases.
I'm not looking forward to having it and I'm also wondering if it’s going to work?

Hi Aidan As you know i also have M.S and i was not sure if to have the flu jab or not but i did Anyway within a few days i ended up having Bell's palsy I told the doctor its her fault she gave me a virus and i end up with this i was not happy. For people who do not not know what Bells Palsy well most people think you have had a stroke but its not that i had pain in my ear and across the left side of my skull and down my left side of my face, my eye felt weird to blink as it was tight to open and close my eye also my tongue was tingley and i had to eat on my right side. The Doctor put me on steroids and it can take up to 3 months plus to clear up I really do not truly know if it was the flu jab but i think so! Aidan i am so sorry to read it had that bad effect on you, i hope you get better soon Caz

I am sorry to hear about both of you problems, with this Jab. My Daughter who is 5 1/2 months pregnant has been offered the swine flu jab and is not sure what to do. I think she should have but as I have said to her the final decision is hers. But what ever she decides we will be on her side. It must be very hard to make a decision like that especially when a baby is involved.

Aidan i am so sorry to read it had that bad effect on you, i hope you get better soon Caz I'm so sorry for you Caz I hope you recover quickly which will happen as I've know a few people who have had Bell's palsy they all recovered but it's frighting when it happens, as you wrote it looks at first as if they have had a stroke. As you know Bells palsy is the result of damage to the nerves in the face which means it's similar to the damage caused by M/S all associated in how our bodies react to infection when our own antibodies don't just attack the virus but also start to attack our nervous system. This is why I don't like the anti-virus jab it can in my opinion trigger my antibodies into action yet catching flu could result in a lot more damage than the flu jab. But faced with the Swine flu and the damage it has been inflicting on people I thought it wise to have the injections this year. Why is it nothing is so simple as it first looks ;D Get well soon Caz

Well after having the flu jab I think not. This does not mean everyone The Doctor was referring to me as I have M.S & Bell's Palsy. Caz

I'm asthmatic and each year I too get offered the flu jab. I have had the injection every year and suffered extremely bad chest problems afterwards. Last year I declined and had no problems. ;D I've been offered it again this year and said no. I (touch wood) have not had flu after having the injection or not, and wouldn't consider having the flu jab again. I would also turn down the swine flu injection, but I wouldn't advise anyone else to do so, cos each person is different and it's probably best to make that decision based upon doctors advice. Incidentally, I have also had a jab to (supposedly) prevent me from ever getting pneumonia. No side effects from that one and I hope it works. Jim

I'm glad to report that I had the swine flu jab over a week ago and I've suffered no side effects although I've still not managed to shake off the heavy cold thats persisted now for weeks.
I go a couple of days thinking it's gone only to go to bed and have a rough night as the cough and blocked nose returns followed by the sore throat and lost voice the following morning.
Any old remedies out there that may help ;D

I had my Swine flu jab a couple of weeks ago, not had any problems. Haze is having hers next Thursday, so fingers crossed (she had to cancel the last one as she had picked up some sort of bug).

Well I've certainly jinxed my self with this topic I've been laid low with the worst bout of flu I've encountered for quite some time and it's not finished with me yet as I've now got a sinus infection . I'm not to happy with the Doctors "new protocol" were you can not have any antibiotics until the tests that take nearly a week to get the results from, tell them which antibiotics to use, in the mean time I'm turning into Pinocchio except it's growing side ways ;D They used to at least give you some anti-biotics whilst the tests were done and 9 times out of Ten they worked before you got the results. I'm getting to old for all this "new way" of thinking that seems to invade every aspect of modern Living, I preferred "Common Sense"

I hope you start to feel better soon.
I fully agree with you about using common sense. Unfortunately that is something that has been completely thrown out of the window in this country.

Aidan & Caz - hope you are feeling better.
I also get offered the flu jab every year, & have had it, with varying levels of side effects. In 2008, I had the flu jab & the pneumonia jab on the same day, & went on to get Flu which caused pneumonia in the following few weeks!!
I did have the Swine Flu jab but the worst it did was give me a very painful arm for about a week.
We've just had a letter offering Abi the Swine Flu jab, which she'll have, as it is, in my opinion, better foir her to be protected, having read all of the available international evidence.
