We have just bought our first ever caravan and dont know a thing about what or where to get a awning for it. We do know the size as it gives it in the brochere. We looked at a few at the october caravan show but it all seemed a bit confusing. Is it worth spending a lot as some seemed really expensive and some cheap. Any advise would really be appriciated. Also is it worth getting a porch awning for the colder months ie for welly, coats etc? Thanks in advance. Mark
It really depends on your intended usage of your van, if you are going to stay on a site for a couple of weeks at a time then a full awning is a good idea to give additional space, if you plan on only staying a couple of nights on site and moving more often then would you want to erect a full awning each time ,probably not.
As far as how much to pay goes its like anything else in the majority of cases you get what you pay for. We have a Bradcot classic full awning that we bought used but like new which we use for longer stays, we also have a porch awning made by pyramid which we use for shorter stays or during the colder months just used for coats, wellies drying the dog off etc.
One option may be a larger porch awning to cover both eventualities, also consider second hand there are some bargains to be had if you search hard enough, people who have just bought a new awning and then changed vans etc.
Whatever you decide think carefully beforehand as mistakes can be costly.
Hope this has been some help to you I'm sure you will receive much more advice soon.
When we got our Van we bought a Bradcot Classic. We also got a Ventura porch awning, but we sold it as we thought it was just as easy to put up the Bradcot. Then we decided that we needed a porch type awning so we got a portico porch from Towsure. It is only a small one but we can fit our bikes in it. It can be put up in 10 minutes and can be put away wet.
