If anyone is interested in an ad hoc gathering, Dickers and Mrs Dickers will be at Parklands Holidays caravan site just north of Wisbech on the A1101 in Cambridgeshire from the morning of Friday, 17th September to the morning of Friday,24th September. If any of the Forum members wish to join us for the week or part of the week, please feel free. There is nothing organised. It is very much a "do your own thing" week.
If you want more details of this privately owned caravan site, the website is www.parklandsholidays.co.uk For the satnav users, the co-ordinates are 52.73263deg.N, 0.433238deg.W (just north of Four Gotes) as near as I can ascertain, but look it up on the map! By the way, the owner occasionally posts on the Forum.
It should be emphasised that this is not an official Caravan Channel meet. Everyone is responsible for their own bookings and costs. The Caravan Channel cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for this unofficial get together. Dickers in particular accepts no responsibility for bookings or anything else which may happen while on the site.
According to the owners, there should be approximately 15 pitches available with EHU, first come, first served. Please see the website for details of the facilities.
The charge at the moment is £17.50 per night including EHU but there is a special offer for the over 55s of £35.00 for seven nights complete with EHU. Bargain!!!
Mr and Mrs Dickers look forward to meeting any of the Forum members who pitch up.
That is an absolute bargain at £35 for a week. Unfortunately the website is under construction, which means no one can see the site or any information on it. I will have to have a word with the boss and see what she says.
From memory (and don't quote me!) the facilities are as follows.
Bar, shop, EHU, Swimming pool (may be closed at this time of the year). Looking at the Google overhead satellite picture, there are about 50 touring pitches, most of them quite large. Each of the pitches have a hedge between them.
If you and June can make it, we would be pleased to see you again.
Ah - you're only about 20 miles from me then - if you prefer industrial heritage, you could come up to Blaenavon - world heritage town due to the iron works & also has the National Mining museum 'Big Pit' which is worth a visit - both are free too!! Rhodda Heritage centre meant to be good too.
If you like walking, Cwmcarn Forest Drive is nice, & if you like steam trains, then there is Blaenavon & Pontypool railway (though only about 2 miles long at the mo) & the Brecon railway in Merthyr is short but lovely
Tredgar house is nice, Castle Coch is lovely - real fairytale like castle - Tintern Abbey is nice, Raglan & Abergavenny castles can be done in the same day ......
So many places to go - lived here 7 years & still not done most of them!!!
Unfortunately we won't be able to go. On Saturday 18th we have got Cara overnight. Then on Sunday we are at Twinlakes with Bethany. then on Tuesday June has got a hospital. It would have been nice to see you again but it will have to wait for now. We are hoping to get away on Thursday 23rd, but not sure where yet.
Website shouldnt be under construction, its been live for nearly 2 years. aslo the price is either £35 for the week for over 55s or £14.60 per night with hook up for a couple. look forward to seeing some of you.
