How do you keep your important documents safe when you are touring? Do you keep them on your person all the time or do you have a safe place in your van?
In order to keep your passports, vehicle documents, driving licence etc. Also cameras and other valuables has anyone out there fitted a safe box or other similar item to keep things secure? If you do use a safe what would be the best way to conceal it in the van and fix it firmly in place?
Having been a tenter and trailer tenter in the past, I had no option and on a holiday to France bought myself a man bag, Lots of room and now no baggy pockets. Of course if yer not man enough;-)
Retired to France with the Vintage Camping Panzer (Hymer B594 2.5td 1993) and the boss. Since 1962 we have Static'd, Tented, Trailer-tented, Caravanned and now Motor-homing or rather Campingcarists :-).
I fitted a safe under the Island bed in our Caravan for the valuables. I have a Folder/Binder with all the document in it, that we take in the car if we are away from the caravan sight-seeing, another folder with Photocopies is kept in the Caravan. Passport are carried on us for Identity purposes or in the safe if we are chilling by the Camp site (I don't have or want a Photo License).

Like Trooper, I fitted a safe under the seating area, I used long bolts through the floor and ensured the bolts could not be undone from underneath. I keep my original documents in the safe and have copies on my person whilst out and about, only taking them out and having them with us whilst towing from one site to the other.
Hi all, Firstly I would like to say thank you to all who posted a reply to my question on keepin valuables safe.
I have just returned from a three week trip in Germany and France.
Prior to setting off I fitted a lockable safe, which I installed using cap head bolts through the floor of the motorhome and secured with nuts and anti-vibration washers from inside the safe. The safe is the size you usally have in a hotel room so it provides ample room for all your important documents and an SLR camera, spare lenses, compact cameras and sat nav etc.
Rather than carrying photo copies of my documents I scanned them and saved them to SD cards which were very easy to keep with you at all times. If it would have been necessary to reproduce the document all I would have to do was call into any tourist information office and they will usually offer to print a document free of charge.
