Folks, I'm new to all this and relatively new to my Fiat Ducato motorhome. By the look of things you guys can help me.
My van is fitted with a cascade rapide water heater which upto now i thought only ran off electricity. i have number of questions -if trying to run off gas how do you know it has lit? Where is the flame established - in the unit its self? Does it work as a little combi boiler ie does it heat the water when the taps turned on or does it have to be on for a while and heat the water that is in the tank?
Sorry for going on here - how does the water tank get it's water? It looks like it's piped up direct from the main water tank ie it doesn't appear to have its own external filling point. Does it fill automatically off the main tank controlled by a level switch and a non return valve? I don't want to put on the heater and burn it out due to lack of water in the tank. Final question (well for now) - how long does the heater need to be on to get a showers worth? hope I've explained things Ok. Any help will be greatly appreciated
This is an extract from the Cascade manual for Gas operation.
TO USE THE GAS HEATING 1. Ensure that the gas and 12 volt supply are on. 2. Turn on at the wall switch. 3. If a green light shows continuously then the heater is working correctly. 4. If green and red lights show after approx. 10 seconds, press the OFF button, wait 3 minutes and press the ON button again. 5. If green and yellow lights show then the voltage to the control is too low. Recharge the battery (Fig. 17).
The water supply to the heater should be the same for Gas as it is for Electric operation. The Heater is normally plumbed in to the cold water system, so that when a Tap is turned On pressurised water is present at the Heater Inlet.
I don't know how long you would need the heater on for a showers worth, remember these heaters only hold about 9l of water, so be sparing when you do shower.

Hi. I have a crown caravan (yes one of those is still going!). Went away last weekend to find that I have no hot water coming out of the taps, only cold.....other items of note: 1. I drained the system before winter 2. I have a carver cascade 3 water heater 3. I have checked the fuses on the instrument panel and all okay 4. Water is in the water heater, as I unscrewed the drain plug and got soaked, however when turning the taps on the water pump is active and taking water from the aquaroll. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks
Hi, we have a carver cascade 2 fitted in our recently acquired motorhome. The heater seem to work fine, however, when taking a shower, the water temperature alternates from hot to cold in a 30 second cycle, which is annoying. Has anyone got any ideas what we can do to solve this problem or why it is happening? I was wondering if we should try and fit a thermostatic valve, but then again the camper was built like this, so perhaps there is a simpler solution. Any help, thoughts or ideas, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Blobsblob
Bearing in mind that there is a limited amount (about 9/10 litres) of hot water available in caravans and motorhomes, try the following.
Get the water at the shower head at the chosen temperature. Switch the shower off. Get into the shower, switch the shower on and wet yourself thoroughly all over then switch off. Use a wetted sponge and shower gel to soap yourself. Switch on the shower again and wash the soap off. Stand under the shower for a minute or two to enjoy. Exit the shower, towel dry. Find a full length mirror, stand back, admire.
This technique uses hardly any water (a 9/10 litre water heater is still half full) and does the job.
thanks for the showering tips, but unfortunately the problem I have is that I can't regulate the temperature as it goes from hot to cold every 15 seconds, hence the idea of using a thermostatic valve. Further thoughts appreciated. Cheers B
