Returning to Caravanning after a break of over 15 years.
No caravan as yet, but purchase is imminent. Doing the viewing and have money burning a hole in my pocket!
I would welcome you thoughts, views and experiences or the following:
I looking to spend about 5-7k on a car.Think a good old reliable Ford Mondeo, but should I be getting a 4x4? What do you consider to be a solid tow car?
The caravan 4 berth with fixed bed. What is the most popular and best all weather caravan?
What must have item should I have for my return to caravanning?
Look forward to your thoughts, views and comments.

You must have slipped through Cameron's net if you've got money. The Mondeo seems to get good reports as a towcar, I have a Volvo V70SE which is a brilliant tow car. It depends on where you will be using your Caravan, whether it is in fields or on sites. If your using more fields then a 4X4 will be best, if your using sites a non 4X4 will be more suitable. Don't forget a 4X4 could cost a lot more in tax and will use more fuel. I towed with a 53 Hyundai Sante Fe the fuel consumption dropped to an average of 26/28 when towing but it was an excellent Towcar. One other thing is when your not towing will the majority of you trips be short or long.
Welcome to the forum, I agree with Carper the Mondeo does come out as a great tow car, but it all depends what size caravan you want to tow with it and also your driving licence entitlement. A 4x4 depends on the weight of the caravan you want to tow, but as Les had said they are a costlier to run.
