High Onn Caravan Club Site Church Eaton, Stafford, Staffordshire, ST20 0AX 01785 840141
This is one of the Caravan Clubs basic sites in that there are No Toilets or Showers so you must use your own facilities. The site is reach via a net work of single track roads with passing places, so sticking to the recommended arrival and leaving times is a must. The site is very well kept, there is a total of 69 pitches 49 of which are Hard Standing. A large Dog Walk is across the Lane.
We were very disappointed to find the local Public Footpaths to be overgrown and unusable, so if you wish to visit the Canal you will have to walk the lanes (the Canal Towpath is grass and not really suitable for normal cycling).
The whole area was a war time Aerodrome which has fallen into ruin but there are many signs of its former use.
Would we use the site again ? .......... Yes definitely
Seeing Trooper's video reference High On awoke memories, especially of the narrow roads with high hedges all round the site.
About 20 years ago, we went to High On. Because it was late in the year and work commitments meant we couldn't get away early on the Friday, we ended up trying to find the site in the dark. Not funny!
At one stage, we were in a farm yard. At another stage, we were nearly in someone's front garden. We got to a T-junction with a grass triangle and had to unhitch, turn the caravan round and hitch up again. All this was being done in the middle of nowhere in absolute pitch darkness.
Eventually, we found a sign post on which we could just make out the names of two villages and, by finding the villages on the map, we were able to work out where we were and get back on track. Oh, what fun!
