Hi all has any one out there owning a 2014 Lunar quasar had 20 litres of water leaking inside the van from a red water pipe ( The tail from the tap to water pipe )caused by the pipe running along side the cooker and burning through resulting in a water leak. ? If not may I suggest you check the run of the pipe which I now believe should be fastened by clips to the side of the van, This was obviously not done on ours. Unfortunately unable to attach picture as file is to big

Not good to say the least and not acceptable.
If the caravan is still under warranty, it's back to the dealer. If it is not under warranty, it is still back to the dealer under the Sale of Goods Act "not fit for purpose". It seems that you have a "Friday afternoon" caravan and the assemblers have taken a short cut.
My caravan, which is, admittedly, 7 years old has suffered a similar problem when we were away last week. My wife pulled a mains plug from the wall socket and the whole assembly including the TV sockets and the 12v socket came off the wall. On investigation, there were no screws holding the sockets on to the wall and there never had been. The whole unit was being held on by the fancy trim and the trim was held on by 2 short N0. 4 screws. Short cuts "R" us indeed! As long as it looks OK cosmetically, we'll get away with it and it will be the customer's problem.
I hope that your caravan dries out completely and that you can arrange that the replacement pipe is kept well away from the cooker in the future. Having said that, one should not have problems of that nature. It is my personal opinion that caravan manufacturers are not all that bothered about quality control and rely on the dealer to pick things like that up in the PDI or the customer to pick them up, preferrably when the caravan is out of warranty.
Cynical? Me?
Good luck,
Dickers

Hi Dickers, This van has been an absolute pile of junk from day one of purchase (October 2014)the service department at this dealers Is an absolute joke and some of the repairs they have done beggars belief that they thought they would get away with. we have owned touring vans since 1980 so we know a little bit but still willing to learn from others but this dealers have not got a clue. We have been arguing with Lunar and the dealer since purchase regarding damage in and outside the van due we think to the wardrobe not fitting properly causing these dents, Three months to get the fridge / freezer replaced. Has any body on here had any success at being able to talk to the manufacturer when you are at the end of your tether with a none Interested dealer,? And while the water leak was on going the screws holding the middle front blind pulled out of the woodwork at the front of the van and on It goes It really Is a good thing my wife and I have a Black Country sense of humour but that Is now wearing thin. Sorry about the rant now I feel better.

Hi Quasarkate.
It looks like you have had more than your fair share of problems. Unfortunately, here on the Forum, we hear this tale of woe far too often. One buys a caravan in good faith at not inconsiderable cost, not unreasonably expecting it to be trouble free. Then the problems start and one gets embroiled in a situation where the dealer does not want to know and refers the customer to the manufacturer and the manufacturer chooses to abdicate responsibility under the Sale of Goods Act where the first recourse is through the dealer.
Unfortunately, there are more than a few dealers who use the customer to do the PDI after having bought the caravan. In other words, they do nothing and hope that there are no faults or, if there are, the buyer finds them after the warranty runs out. If there are any faults found during the warranty period, it is extremely rare that they are dealt with promptly and properly. We are fortunate in that the dealer we have always used is conscientious and prompt in dealing with problems whether under warranty or not.
You mention the problem with your fridge. We bought our current caravan from the same dealer we have been using for 28 years. We had a problem with the fridge while on holiday while the caravan was on the dealer's used caravan warranty. We phoned the dealer while we were away and explained the fault. He immediately offered to send a service engineer to us on site. I explained that we were 150 miles away and that we could still use the fridge on mains. He told us to bring it to them on our return which we did. As it happened, we were going away again the day after so time for the repair was limited. They couldn't find the cause of the problem and eventually took a fridge out of another caravan and swapped it for ours. On another occasion, the gas regulator gave up and we were asked to have it sorted near the site and give them the invoice when we returned. There is no way this service to the customer can be faulted. But we are fortunate. There are many who are not so fortunate.
Conversely, we had an insurance claim for some accidental bodywork damage (not our fault). We were told by our insurers to take it to a specific dealer which we did. The caravan was still usable so we were not too worried about delays. After about 2 months the parts arrived and we were told when the repair would be carried out. It involved removing the front panel and the front part of the awning rail. When we got it back, it was a mess to say the least. The panel didn't fit properly. They had not carried out the repair on the side of the caravan which was included in the claim. The first time we used it with the awning we found that the two halves of the rail were not properly aligned and they had not put the openings for the awning bolt rope in the new length of rail. The end of the rail had been left with sharp edges as it had come off the saw resulting in the awning getting severely damaged when pulling it through. After much argument and being told that the law was on our side, they agreed to do the job properly and repair the awning free of charge. It all resulted in loss of use of the caravan for a total of two months which was annoying to say the least and tried my Scottish sense of humour sorely.
There are good, conscientious dealers out there who want to keep their customers. There are also dealers out there who are only interested in taking the customer's money and could not care less whether the customer comes back or not. Unfortunately, it is pot luck which dealer you end up with and by then it is too late if it is a bad dealer you are involved with.
Bah! Humbug!

Hi Dickers, We have taken our van to an NCC/Lunar approved workshop to get Lunars approval for the remaining warranty work to be done and even now they are dragging their feet the biggest mistake we made was using savings and paying cash for the van. All we need now Is Lunar saying they wont do the bodywork and then we will take them on and the mood my Katey is In she will deliver the van back to Preston herself and sit and wait while they write out the cheque Regarding your accident damage at least you got your van back some years ago we had to return our caravan to Avondale for the front panel to be replaced never to be seen again caravan or the new transporter that was towing it, Thank goodness for new for old Insurance. The folly I am sure will continue but thanks for your Input. Quasar Kate
