My query is not so much the increase in prices but the increase in serviced pitches reported in the latest magazine.
We have been caravanning for over 30 years as members of the CMC and have been quite happy to go on non-serviced pitches. In fact, when we are on Horse Trials sites, we could be pitched in the middle of a 150 acre field, water is usually from a tap anything up to 3/4 mile away or the tap on a horse trough. grey water is chucked under a hedge or into the roots of a tree. EHU? What's that?
To get back to the increase in serviced pitches no doubt justified by the CMC as "it's what the Members want". Is it? Nobody asked me.
This, I would surmise is being done at the expense of standard pitches. If one tries to book a pitch on a CMC site and opts for a non-serviced pitch, it is possible that there are only serviced pitches available at extra cost. If one doesn't need a serviced pitch or is not prepared to pay the extra cost, effectively, that site is no longer available. It begs the question "How long until all pitches are serviced and the price of a pitch goes up accordingly whether we like it or not?" Surely it is better to have a site with a high percentage of occupancy of non-serviced pitches than to have serviced pitches standing empty because the Members don't want them, need them or are not prepared to pay the premium demanded. Site fees are already getting near to the point where caravanning is not the inexpensive hobby/activity it once was. If the CMC is not careful, it could price itself off the market and lose members thus defeating the object. The cost of a standard pitch is getting to the point where Members are starting to think twice. The one saving grace is that, on CMC sites, one knows exactly what standard of facilities one is getting for the site fees. The facilities and pitches on "the other Club" sites can vary quite a bit but the fees tend to be lower and the "wrinklies" can take advantage of the Age Concession arrangement.
Over the last few seasons, we have been using CLs on a regular basis because they are less expensive and in many cases, offer the same facilities as a Club site (toilets, showers etc., albeit not to the same high standards.). There is one CL we use where the owner owns the pub to which the CL is attached. He brews his own beer in a microbrewery attached to the pub. Because there is no passing trade, i.e. it is a "destination" pub, the pub is closed on a Monday. To compensate for this calamity, He brings round a quart jug of ale to each on site caravan on the Monday evening free of charge. He tells me that next season, all the pitches will be serviced with a modest increase in site fees which will still be around £16. There are toilets and showers available in the pub 24 hrs. What is there not to like?.
Admittedly, we have been on some rubbish CLs and it is not the first time we have booked for say 4 nights, arrived on site, stayed one night the moved on. However, by judicious use of Google Earth to have a look at the site from overhead, one can get a good idea of what one is letting one's self in for.
Just a few thoughts. Rant over.
Dickers,

There are price increases every year. The only difference for next year is that the Club have actually confirmed they are happening rather than just bury them on the website so you are none the wiser. I suspect the e-mail was prompted by the rolling booking system and the mail confirms everyone who has already booked will pay the rates in operation during 2018 so some people will actually save a bit of money.
The Service pitch thing is a totally different matter. They will always be in the minority of total pitches but they are increasing in number because they are so popular, some people won't book a site unless they can have a serviced pitch! Even I have used them! It is quite a hefty additional payment but clearly lots of members don't mind.

Funny enough I have just read the Club magazine tonight between 10 and 11pm and I'm just catching up on some posts now and like Dickers said about the price increase which is shocking ! Like him we use the same CL site most of the year, £14 per night water , toilets , showers hook-up and views of the Dales , we shop about & we use i.e Beechwood Grange at York is only £1 for the kids but we tried to price Castleton caravan club site down at the Peak District for next Easter the website showed full so I rang Direct and he said he had service pitches available but at a cost of £158 for 3 nights to which I didn't take and managed to get Keswick Club site for £80 for the same duration of time over the bank holidays !
Its the same club !!
But the magazine does state that if you book now for next year before the 5th of December you will get this year's prices before they go up for next year .
Happy touring
Craig .

Hi Doolz,
I can't remember whether I have or not but here goes.
The Bluebell Inn Whaplode St. Catherine Spalding.
Excellent CL site behind a pub. Flat and level with access to water and chem toilet disposal, EHU 16A. Pitches 2-5 inclusive currently have disposal into a drainage ditch that runs alongside the site either by trundling the Wastemaster or by hose direct from the caravan outlet (about 10m but not absolutely sure) TV signal is non existent owing to the brewery shed being in the way of the transmitter. However, mine host has fitted TV outlets to each of the EHU bollards which solves the problem. Toilet and shower facilities are available at the back of the pub should anyone forget to load the toilet and shower into the caravan. We have never used the facilities so cannot comment but we have heard that they are immaculate and have disabled access. There is a motorhome service area in the corner of the car park
We are reliably informed that there is an upgrade to fully serviced pitches in the pipeline for the 2019 season.
The Pub is open 7pm-11pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with food being available from 7pm-9pm. On Saturdays, the pub is open 12-3pm then 7-11pm. Food is available 12-2pm then 7-9pm. On Sundays the opening times are 12-1030pm with food available from 12-7pm. The food is excellent and, if you are resident on site there is a £5.00 discount on that night's site fee. As this is a "destination" free house, there is no passing trade. The pub is closed on Mondays. To compensate, mine host, if he isn't away in his motorhome, comes round with some beer in the evening.
The site is out in the sticks. Shopping is at the CO-OP in Whaplode (comparatively expensive) which also provides a Post Office and petrol/diesel.
A welcome pack is provided on arrival which gives all the information on hospitals, doctors, vets and dentists.
The nearest caravan spares/accessories are at Crowland caravans in, believe it or not, Crowland and Pioneer caravans in Eye. Crowland is about 18 miles or so and Eye is about 20.
Spalding is the nearest town of any size with Stamford (lots of antique shops, nice walks around the town, the famous "George at Stamford" coaching inn and Burghley House) not too far aaway. The other towns around the area are King's Lynn (interesting old docks area), Boston, Hunstanton (usual seaside holiday resort), Sandringham (Queen's holiday gite), Cromer and Peterborough.
No photos of the site. Sorry!
Dickers.
