Has anyone come across a sensible SatNav system for Caravanners. I have a Garmin Nuvi which covers Europe and I use it extensively in France. However it constantly recommends stupid narrow and unsuitable roads.
Is there a system out there where you can prioritise you route preferences by either telling it you are a caravan or select major road preferred; avoid minor roads; avoid by width etc.
On the Nuvi the options of fastest and shortest route are not enough. And setting as a lorry or bus does not help in route selection merely adjusts the arrival time.
I suspect that this is all a function of the quality of the underlying map providers, as to whether they have road width / quality data.
only use sat nav when getting very close to my destination, still use my trusty TRUCKERS ROAD ATLAS which shows narrow roads and steep hills as well as truck stops. Have not found one which allows for towing although it is rumoured that one of the major manufactures is working on a version for moter homes and caravanners Dave
I'm very worried why the title on this is Sat Nav for caravans does that mean you don't need one in the car???
I use the O2 XDA orbit phone as this came with sat nav built in and uses Co Pilot 7 live, you can install this on most pda style phones. It has the options to set up the type of vehicle and what style of route you prefer, also flags up tolls. I have also found it very good as other people can log onto internet if invited to find out your present location and can send messages direct to add locations etc if required.
Good luck in your search
