I'm (not) impressed with the new TV/DVD Player Aug 8, 2011 19:33:36 GMT

I've spent the last year dithering about buying a new TV/DVD player for the caravan to replace the existing analogue 50 watt TV and the 12 watt free-view box in order to give us more space on the cabinet and the ability to play DVDs with out having yet another box to connect to the TV and at the same time reduce the current drawn from the battery as we do most of our caravanning on field's with no electric hook ups.
The combined power drain excluding a DVD player of the above was 5 amps which could add up to a large drain on the battery early and late season if the sun did not shine on the solar panel.
Yesterday after noon I took the plunge and ordered this Cello 15.6" TV/DVD as you can see from the technical details at the bottom of the page Consumption (on 12 Volts DC): 0.06A standby - 1.25A without DVD - 1.5A with DVD playback a considerable saving on our previous set up not only that but the screen is the same size yet the TV is a lot smaller giving us a better view through the window, it's foot print on the cabinet is considerably less and there is no space taken up with free-view box, DVD player and just the power cable and Ariel cable gone are the extra power leads + scart lead we had to Hide before.
I also made a big saving of £94 by buying the TV from EBuyer yesterday afternoon with the TV arriving at 8.15am today.
I set up both TVs next to each other in the caravan to compare them The picture on the Cello was better but the sound was not as good straight out of the box reading the instructions I could set up a user defined setting for the sound which I did reducing the treble and increasing the bass until I had an acceptable sound. This setting can easily be chosen from the menu of Standard, Music, Movie or Sport
I'll come back to this review in a few months once we have tried it out fully on a few sites.
