We picked up our new Towcar yesterday. It is a Ford Kuga Titanium 2.0l tdci 163ps auto. We are sorting out the towbar, the downside is we can't tow until we have done 1000 miles. It won't be a problem as we have got just over 200 miles already. We will just have to take the Caravan out for a drive round to see how it tows as we go to France on 23rd May.
Your right it will soon get here, it's just not getting away before to see how it tows. It drives brilliantly and the MPG is not to bad we have averaged 39.2 and it will be interesting to see what it will be towing.
You will continue to speak to us lowly mortals when you meet us in your new car, won't you?
Best wishes for France. Gillian and I are green with envy. It does not look good for us ever going to France again as, after Gillian's mini stroke, her travel insurance has gone through the roof even although everything is under control.
I thought you knew me well enough to know I will talk to anyone.
It is good news that Gillian's problem is under control. I know what you mean about the Insurance going through the roof. The first quote I had was the same as soon as I mentioned Bowel cancer, they quoted me £2700 but I did manage to get one for £1700. In the end I went with Nationwide BS and paid £80 although it didn't include cover for the Cancer. I said to June if there was problem we would come home earlier. I was told by the Consultant that there shouldn't be any trouble and there wasn't. I cannot tell you how much we want to get away, since we have been back we have had all sorts of bugs and no time to do anything. Things are improving all the time, I have only got 3 hospital appointments before going
Hi Les. I know you will like the new car i have the same as you just a few extras making a TIT X we are towing a Swift conq 630 which is a big van and well over the 85% rule but inside the gross train weight, so far towed about 300 miles and had no problems that was a mix of motorway A roads and country roads and all has been well so far. the test will come in about 3 weeks when we start a 4 month visit to Europe, Have you got your MPG from the computer or actual fill to fill maths as i and many others on the Kuga forum are haveing problems getting more than 34/35 avarage and only 28 towing fill to fill data 42/43 computer data, i ask as there has been a lot of problems with the software for the trip and miles to empty plus MPG data being incorrect i have had my software updated 3 times so far and its still not correct, if you are not a member of the Kuga forum it might be worth you having a look at the site it has a lot of very good information there. Saying that regardless of the MPG i am over the moon with mine and glad that i got it even though it was a nine month wait, and im sure you will feel the same. Safe drive in France you never know we may pass one another at some point
Hi oldman Thanks for that information. So far I feel very much at home with the car, it drives brilliantly. I have taken the MPG from the computer as I had only filled it up once but had not used a full tank. I will let update it when I fill it up again next week but that won't include any towing, it will have been mainly town and some motorway travel. The towing figures will be in just under 2 weeks when we go to France. I will have a look at the Kuga forum, I never even thought about that before?
You mention that the caravan is "over the 85% but inside the gross train weight". Is the loaded caravan heavier than the kerbweight of the towing vehicle? If so, you could be in serious difficulties with the boys in blue if stopped. There is also the problem of your insurance being invalidated.
I'm sure that you have thought it all through and that I have perhaps misread/misunderstood your post but just thought that I'd make a comment.
Thanks for that. It was something which crossed my mind and, as I didn't know the MTPLM of his caravan, I thought it may be worth a mention. The thought was prompted by Oldman's post saying that it was less than the gross train weight.
I have now towed nearly 600 miles with the car and it towed brilliantly, I am getting 25/ 26 mpg. This is slightly better than the Volvo we had. Am I happy with it the answer is definitely yes very much so.
