Salut, I am taking my motorhome from France to Southern Ireland by ferry, I would like to know if I am able to leave the fridge working on gas during the crossing.

Hi,
Not sure but the best suggestion is to contact the ferry company and ask the question.
If you get the temperature right down as far as it will go and pack the fridge a day before, it should be able to hold the temperature down long enough for nothing to go off on the journey. If the stuff in the fridge is really cold, it should be ok. Just don't open the door more than is absolutely necessary and don't leave it open while you are, say, getting the milk out for a cup of tea. Make sure that the door is firmly locked so that it cannot open accidentally with the motion of the ferry.

If you are going by Britanny Ferries or Stena Lines then gas bottles must be turned off. So you cannot run your Fridge on gas whilst on the Ferry. But as Dickers said of your fridge is cold before your trip then there should be no problem with anything defrosting.

I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to run a fridge on gas on any ferry. The normal advice seems to be to pre-freeze some water or milk containers to keep the fridge cooler on the ferry and as Dickers says try to keep the door closed.

On our various trips on short crossings and on western crossings, I seem to remember seeing signs saying something about "no naked flames on the vehicle decks". If that is so, it precludes having the fridge running on gas.
