After the saga of moving to Cornwall last Feb, the idea was to have much more time to ourselves, and thereby, much more time for caravanningl. Well, that was at least the plan. But with almost a complete house makeover to contend with, things haven't quite gone according to plan. The 'van has been in store since the beginning of March, and the only away days have been back up country to be with daughter and S i L. However, the last few days have seen us back down on the Lizard and in theory enjoying ourselves, but have you seen the weather forecasts for Cornwall lately?
Anyway, the journey was uneventful, apart from me forgetting about the xxxxx A30 Temple road "improvements", and so to the joys of setting up. All was well until turning on the 'van electrics, rather vital as we are, as usual, completely off-grid in a farmer's field. And my much lauded twin Banner batteries were completely flat, well not so much flat, as resembling the aftermath of colliding with a steamroller. Dead doesn't even describe the state of charge, it was non- existent, fallen off their perch, they were no more. Apparently even the journey down had injected no life, and Mrs Neil was demanding her post set-up cuppa! Thank the good Lord for the Barbecue matches which at least saved that situation. Anyway, since then, and a successful combination of jump leads and scant help from the solar panel, we have muddled through, although Wimbledon doesn't carry quite the same excitement via Radio Five Live.
However, on to the point of this post. Our Bailey Series 6, etc. etc. is now rapidly approaching it's tenth birthday, and the fitted carpets were definitely showing their age, but the thought of approaching dear Bailey for a replacement set didn't bear (financially) thinking about, and in any case the house carpets would take precedence. So, what to do? Then, as always in these situations Mrs Neil came up with her latest inspiration, why not the same sort of rugs we've found for the house? Never thought of non-fitted rugs for the 'van before, but one short trip to Dunelm in Truro later, and we have the same sculpted Mirage rugs as at home - different colour tho' - and they look great. Not only an instant makeover, it almost feels like a new 'van, and just a tad cheaper!!!
Happy caravanning to all
Neil & Jackie
