Just had a few days roaming around Aberystwyth and Devils Bridge with my camper really enjoyed it, BUT driving back home on the A44 a madman lorry driver (unfair to madmen ) was behind me for about 6 miles so close had I had to break he would have been in the front of my van what is it with some of these drivers they have to drive so close to the vehicle in front its the same on motorways lorry,s so close to one an other if they parked up you would struggle to walk through between them sorry rant over ---- for now
Unfortunately I have noticed this a lot more this year even driving solo. I have noticed that most of the drivers that have done it to me have been the younger ones. If they are doing it for a few miles I have slowed down about 5 mph. Once they click on I do speed up to what my normal speed.
I ran my own fleet of HGV's since the 1980's until Maureen passed away in 2016 when I decided to sell up and retire. I have seen a deteriation in HGV driving standards over the past 10 - 15 years ever since DVLA forced companies to pay for the driver CPC, that supposed to improve driver standards. What a joke! All my drivers were professionals and employed by word of mouth, but other colleagues were forced to take on drivers from Eastern Europe with grave consequences. Drivers today are as I call them "car drivers, with a vocational licence". The best way I find is either to drive at 50 mph or drive over 56 mph. All HGV's over 7.5t must be fitted with a speed limiter that limits their maximum speed to 56 mph. Although there are driver out there that removed the power supply to this device. They also get the wrong sat navs with car programs and follow them blindly.
I have to agree with you about the useless sat navs that they use I live on small housing estate with a perimeter road some time ago while walking the mut a loaded artic stopped and asked me for directions to a road on an industrial estate 5 mins away I asked if he had sat nav yes he said but it sent me round this estate I had my mobile with me so used google maps so I could send him the right way must admit I was tempted to send him on a merry chase but thought better not ,-- chickened out .Frank
