I am fuming.
We left Benicàssim on Tuesday making our way to Haro ready to go to Santander on Wednesday for the ferry leaving at 17.15 to Portsmouth. On the way up I received a text to say the ferry had been cancelled until Thursday due to adverse weather. We are at Virgen del Mar and received another text saying our ferry had been cancelled and the next one was on Sunday. I rang them and they have now changed us to Caen on the overnight one on Saturday. They have given us nearly £300 back in adjustment and compensation.
I am beginning to wonder if we will get home in time to return to France in May.

This is why we use the Tunnel. It is a lot further to drive and involves a couple of stop overs, but it's very rare for the Tunnel to be canceled due to bad weather.
Hope every thing goes OK Les, we are not comming back until the end of April so might take a couple of weeks driving up through France.

We finally arrived home safely yesterday. It was a long drive from Santander to Caen but well worth it. We filled up at Carrefore in Caen with no problems. We left there and on the roundabout near Bella Riva an immigrant decided to try and get on the back of the Caravan. I had a big dilemma should I accelerate away or wait till he got closer and suddenly brake to see if he could stop before head butting the Caravan. I decided I didn't want the Caravan damaging so accelerated. The Caravan was searched at the port as expected but no problem. We had a very smooth crossing and and at Portsmouth was through border control very quickly. Brittany Ferries did say they had been having a lot more problems with immigrants over the last few months.

Just read on another forum ,the poster wont mind if I post part of it here he is in Spain at the moment ""Police came this morning at the aire in Lorqui (Murcia region) and placed no parking signs on the vacant spots. The ones who where already there can stay, but no additional campervans allowed. License plates of present campervans were recorded by the police. Same happened at the aire in Ricote, the entrance fence to the aire was closed. Don't know if everbody had to leave there.""

I think we were lucky to get out when we did. Barcelona and Madrid seem to have big problems, we neve went anywhere near them. We know quite a few people still there just hoping they manage to get out. There is one couple who had to keep flying home as their Grandson is seriously ill in hospital.

OK heres our update.
We are still here at Camping Taray about a mile from Isla Cristina, Spain, quite close to the border with Portugal.
On Saturday every foreigner on the Campsite was called to a meeting. We were told the official advice was to stay put for at least 14 days.
All the Spaniards on site, sorting out their seasonal vans, would have to leave on the Sunday and could not return until the crisis was over.
All reservations were cancelled and no new campers would be allowed on site (apparently this applies to all Spanish campsites).
You can leave if you want to, but I'm not sure where you could go.
Also all the Beaches have been closed with a €16000 fine if caught on one.
We have a Train booked for 28/4 so for now we are going to stay here and try to enjoy the sun.

Whilst we are annoyed it is better to be safe than sorry. Le

Just when we thought we had sorted things out and the Campsite owner said he would not close the site unless ordered to do so. Went shoping for food and meds this morning, no problems.
Now Spanish goverment has announced it's closing all hotels and short stay Camp/Caravan sites on 24th March. Very nice of them, concidering all Spanist > UK ferrys are canceled and most flights are cancelled. We are going to try to get into France on Frday/Saturday and hopefuly get the Tunnel home on 24th March.
Stay safe people.

We are in France after an epic 700 mile drive across Spain. Only stoped by Spanish Police once, they let us continue after checking all our documents. The French Border Check none existant. We are having a 2 night stop at Lac Azur then moving up France for our Train on Tuesday night.
To be honest after seeing Sky News about the behavour of some of the British shoppers, we are dreading comming home. After seeing first hand how some of the other countries are dealing with this Pandemic we think Britian is in for a rude awakening.

Have you had confirmation that the train is still running. I had an email from Brittany Ferries this morning. It said the last ferry they are running is leaving Spain today and it is full. Apart from a few ferries for freight all other ferries have been stopped. If I was you I would get the supplies you need to last you for at least a week. Have a good trip back let us know when you are in England.

Cheers Les. Upto now the Trains are still running as normal. Basicaly its the only mode of transport that you can self Isolate on. Toilets are closed on Train and you are told to stay inside your vehicle.
We knew about the BF Ferry situation, we left 2 British couples on the Spainish Campsite, they are both booked on BF Ferries for 21/4, fingers crossed for them. The Spanish are allowing people to stay on campsites provided they have their own ficilities on board as all communial service blocks are being shut in 7 days time.

I have just found out that Bonterra park has closed all facilities. Apparently they are stopping new arrivals but are allowing people to leave.

Caravan Club has closed all sites and CL's until end of June (at least until they know what is going on) Hope everyone gets back safely and stays clear of this killer. I have just taken van back to storage as I am waiting for the call from NHS from Monday 23rd that I will be on 12 weeks stay at home due to my Blood Cancer and being on daily Chemo treatment since 2016. White cells are rock bottom. So at least we will have clean windows and car for a change

We are back home.
The roads in Spain and France were very quiet, the roads in UK only slightly quieter.
