After being an ardent fan of the caravan since 1982, I decided to take the plunge after losing my Wife and Soulmate Maureen and trade our Bessie in for a Motorhome. I bought Moggie the motorhome a year ago last month. Although the Bessacarr 424 is sold as a 4 berth, I would say it is better suited to being a couples vehicle. I have covered 1500 miles in my first year of ownership and have enjoyed it. When there was two of us arriving on site we had our own jobs and it meant we could be ready to holiday in about 30 - 40 mins. But being on my own now it was taking me about an hour to get set up.
What a breeze the motorhome has been, just getting out to turn on the gas and plug in the EHU the kettle is on within 10 mins. Living with my motorhome this season has meant I can go when and where ever I want. Swift have been good, the carried out a modification recall on the drop down bed. And Fiat have recalled the engine for EGR pipes. Swift are now dealing with the only faults I have had under warranty, that is a warped wardrobe door, a water leak on the Shurflo pump, a seized water dump valve and a problem with the leisure battery.
I'm sure Maureen would have agreed with the changes and the ease of use. If I plan a trip where there is a problem with transport links, I tow a small trailer with my trusty Fiat Panda onboard, this then gives me good mobility. The dimensions are good too, instead of a 26.5ft caravan being towed by a 15.5ft 4x4, the motorhome is a shade under 19ft and the trailer is only 15ft. Fuel wise it is slightly better when towing the trailer than it was pulling the caravan.
I am looking forward 2019, I intend to start in April, unless the weather is better than this year. Nevertheless, a 2 week trip covering Essex, Kent, Hampshire and South Wales is on my plan.
