Hi Mike, will you please put us down for 3 nights at Mandalay CC CL at Fenwick Doncaster £12 per night incl EHU. Towed 150 miles We have stayed here many times before and is close by to an olde worlde pub serving great food and ale at sensible prices (within walking distance - about 10 mins max walk) This trip was to drop off our old van and collect our new one to try out, unfortunately it hammered down during handover so we all got soaked, the van was on hook up when we viewed it so was a warm welcoming feeling. Now home and need to put the rest of the stuff we have in the spare bedroom and garage, less the stuff we have not used in the past 3 years. Yeh OK Next outing will be Dare I say it? CHRISTMAS Thanks Paul

We are off to a dealer near Pontefract on Wednesday morning to swap our van for a new one, so will be stopping off for 2 nights on a local CC CL to try it out and if we do find any problems the dealer will come out to us to fix, plus they are paying towards the stay. Will report back on our return..

If your not bothered about the cost. Then Searles next door to Manor Park looks really nice, the problem is the price was £61pn. We passed a few sites on the way in but never visited. I think when we go back, unless I find somewhere different I will use either the CMC or the CCC. At £61 pn, I think I will have to pass that one at top speed

Rhiw Afon Rhoslan Criccieth LL52 0NR Site Opens: All Year Date visited – Sept 2108 Unit - Car/Caravan/Awning Price per night - £15.00 incl EHU This CL is in two sections all pitches are grass with EHU points along the edge of the field. The first field on your left has a water tap in the right hand corner of the field, which has a long pipe attached, I personally do not like using these so disconnect it and use my own as this pipe is left in the grass. The WC and hand wash-basin with shower (coin operated) are in a out building which is situated behind the house along with recycling bins, a water tap is also nearby. The chemical toilet empty point is located in the field behind the house. There is a pub called the Goat Inn within a mile, which serves great meals, but booking is advisable for evening meals. Porthmadog is the home for the Ffestiniog Railway, for £25 return per person you can get on/off at the many stops during the day. Other place to visit is Borth Y Gest good walks, beach and nice cafes. Criccieth has a beach and plenty of walks. 1st section of CL 2nd section of CL

We chose this site for its closeness to the coastal walks (300 mts).
On arrival only 1 pitch was free, this was close to the toilet and shower building, so our side view was a rather ghastly off yellow colour, we backed onto a low walled garden which had a rather shabby looking static, which looked like it could fall down anytime, the garden was used as a dump for building rubbish along with clothes lines slung on top. The entrance reminded us of a building site.
Our view when pitched was several stored vans to our left, many looked like they had never been moved for decades. The grass side of our hard-standing pitch was just mud. We got talking to a couple who were in one of the vans on the front row who said they were leaving shortly, so we had lunch and waited for them to pack up and go, to our amazement they got in the car and drove towards us, so we had another chat, apparently, he leaves his van there all year and will be returning to it in a couple of weeks time, the van next to his is the same (seasonal), again taking best pitches, front row for the views, the van next to ours were not due back until another 3 weeks and the 5th van was empty too, its no wonder our grass was in such a poor state if its the only one used while the better pitches are left empty for most of the year. The owners, we were told were away so we were unable to discuss our concerns, what finally put the nail in the coffin for the wife was a white van came racing onto site, drove round looked at us in the van and drove off. She never felt safe, even though we had paid for our first nights stay of £15 we phone another site which was over 1 hours drive away. To make matters worse we had driven 3.5 miles on single lane roads with few passing places which seemed to take for ever, so we were not looking forward to doing the same trip back to civilisation again.
We did manage to get hold of the owners to tell them we had left, they did not seem bothered we did not stay.
So I can only say we will not be visiting this site again, we are considering reporting the fact that they have seasonal vans on site which are empty over night both which contravenes CL rules. But will anything come of it?? I wonder
Anyway sorry for the negative report but felt I need to reflect what we experienced.

This is a Parkdean site On arrival at reception there was no obvious place to park. I parked outside and went in to be welcomed by Mr Grumpy. Who gave us our welcome pack and said pick any free pitch, he said it is a one way system. We found a pitch which was a good size and pitched up. It looked like a nice touring area about 70 pitches, which was almost full. The men's toilet block that contained 2 proper showers, and what I can only describe as a wet room a shower with glass blocks as the wall. One of the men's showers was out of order, it meant there was only one shower for about 70 pitches. I spoke to the cleaner who said she had reported the shower at least a week before as had some of the other Caravaners. Later we went to the arcade which wasn't exactly a vote winner and the lady must had been married to Mr Grumpy in reception. The swimming pool although small looked nice, it turned out the lifeguards were very good and helpful. The next day I asked in reception when the shower in the men's would be repaired. Apparently the maintenance manager was on holiday but may be in the next day so she would find out. I went in the next day to be told that someone was coming in to fix it but they didn't know when it would be done. Surprise surprise it still hadn't been fixed when we left today. Apart from the lifeguards the security man who checked the passes was very helpful and happy. The beach is about 10 minute walk which was handy, the only time we used the car in the week was to go to Kings Lynn. There is a Tesco's a 5 minute walk away and a nice pub with great food opposite. We went into Hunstanton a 10 minute walk away and found another nice place for food called The View, we had a great cooked breakfast in there so went back in the evening for a lovely dinner. Would I go back again, to the site no, to the area yes. Les Thanks for the review Les, we were thinking of that area next year for a short break, and will stay well clear of this site. I can never understand why people are so offish, if they don;t like the job then they should find another they do and let someone else stand in and do the job..

I have used Archies POI database on my Sat Nav for years and found it to be really useful. When I had a problem downloading/installing from his site, I emailed and within an hour he had given advice for my TT Go device, fantastic service.

Southfield East Lyng Bridgewater TA3 5AR Owner: Mrs J Chiddy Date visited - June 2018 Unit - Car/Caravan/Motor-home Price per night - £12.00 incl Arrival after 1pm. Open April to October (2018) Click on images to enlarge then click the back button top left of your browser to return to post Site from entrance road Recycle drinking and grey waste water Chemical toilet This is an Adults Only Caravan Club CL (members only). We visited this site in 2014 it now has 3 hard standing pitches. Since our last visit an additional water tap has been installed central to the pitches, so those who are sited towards the bottom end of the site do not need to walk too far to fill up. This site is approx 1.5 acres with grass pitches levelling blocks were needed, the pitches are in a line and well spaced. Each pitch has EHU point. Facilities for re-cycling and chemical empty point with water tap for flushing. There is a small dog walk facilities on site, with a waste bin, but I would not think it would suffice a large dog. The grass was short and the clippings collected. During our stay, the site was full but didn’t feel crowded. Road noise is not really an issue on this site, but the railway line, which runs directly by the side can be, especially when they sound the klaxons, this is not mentioned in the sites directory. RSPB and wetlands reserves are close by. A cider farm is 200 yards down the road, which is worth a visit We would certainly recommend this site.

Chiverton Farm Rosudgeon Penzance TR20 9PE Owner Mr/s Skewes Date visited – June 2108 Unit - Car/Caravan/Awning Price per night - £12.00 incl Arrival after 12pm Click on images to enlarge then click the back button top left of your browser to return to post Site viewed from entrance View of St Michael's Mount from field behind site HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier The site is a Caravan Club CL. It is open all year and is situated off a main road down the farms own road, This is a working dairy farm and entry to site is through the road where the cattle wait for milking, the road into site beyond this is also mud, so don’t expect your car and unit to be clean for long during rain. We arrived to very long grass, this did not get cut until a week into our stay, by this time the grass was up to mid calf, which made the site more appealing and we were able to sit out and not be attacked by the long grass. The owners are very friendly and helpful. There is free Wi-Fi, but due to the distance from the house, it is variable especially on pitch 5/6, which is furthest from the house. Dogs are welcome on site with walks direct from site via a dirt track and onto a tarmac road taking you past a new camp site to the south west coastal path or by taking the style and along the fields again to the coastal path. We chose this site as it was within 1-mile walk to the coast and did not need to use the car. There is a very reliable bus service, which will take you either to Penzance or Helston, which stops outside the sites entrance. The site is very peaceful and is free of light pollution. The coastal walks/scenery is stunning; we did spot Dolphins and Seals during our walks. Also during our stay we were able to see anchored by the side if St Michael's Mount HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, there for specialist training before sea trials to USA. Unfortunately, during our stay, the Chemical toilet soil pipe broke into the tank, so we had to carry the toilet to the house and use their manhole next to the house door, not ideal, but it was an emergency. The owners did say it would be repaired in 2 days, the chap came to look at it in the 2 days, but never returned during our stay to fix it, so not sure if it was fixed. This could be a lovely site if a little more effort was put into it and the weeds and overgrown vegetation around the fence of the site was cut back. I only say this as we have stayed on other sites for the same price and in far better condition.

Holeacre Dunsford Exeter EX6 7DL Owner: J Dicker Date visited – June 2108 Unit - Car/Caravan/Awning Price per night - £12.00 incl. Earliest arrival is 12.00 Open all year Click on images to enlarge then click the back button top left of your browser to return to post Site looking to entrance View from pitch Sunset view from pitch The site is set in 1 acre and a Caravan Club CL and situated 2 miles off the main road A30 Trunk Road and down a single lane with not many passing places. It is important not to arrive before 12.00, as this lane is used regularly by farm traffic and even Jewson delivery Lorries, some vehicles do travel at speed, so beware as you leave site, it would be better if the owners lowered the hedge either side of the entrance to help see traffic coming from the right. Once you arrive on site, you are met with fantastic views of Dartmoor. The owners have placed a wooden bench on the edge overlooking the field. There is road noise but we did not find it too intrusive. There is an information hut along with local maps for walking. Despite the road noise, it is set in a peaceful area with no light pollution. Dogs are welcome on site with walks direct from site. An information hut has maps of local walks and other information. Castle Drogo (NT) and Fingle Woods (NT) are close by. EHU is 16 amps the grass is very neat and mown regularly. There is no Motor-home drive over water empty point so you will need to use either a wastewater container or pipe to the drain, which is in the corner of the field behind the information hut.

Alice Street Farm Cloford Frome BA11 4PJ Owner Mr C Vincent www.alicestreetfarm.co.ukDate visited – May 2108 Unit - Car/Caravan/Awning Fully Serviced Pitches Price per night - £17.00 incl Arrival after 1pm (due to single track to farm) Click on images to enlarge then click the back button top left of your browser to return to post Site entrance Chemical Toilet empty next to pitch 1 The site is an Adults Only Caravan Club CL set in ¾ acre, all caravan/motor-homes are in a line, giving views across the field. It is open all year and is situated off a main road down the farms own road, when you come to the barn you will bear right up the drive to the site, you will pass the shower/toilet room and a shed on the left containing information about where to visit in the area. The chemical toilet empty point is in a shed and next to pitch 1. Each pitch is fully serviced which includes grey water waste drain and an additional water tap for filling Fido’s bowl up if necessary. It is set in a peaceful area with no light pollution (each pitch has its own courtesy light that, can be turned on/off as required) and no road noise. Dogs are welcome on site with walks direct from site via a gate at the top of the field near pitch 5. Free Wi-Fi but due to the trees obstructing the antenna (located on the site gate post) distance is restricted and is variable on pitch 5 (furthest from the antenna) One negative side is the owners do not make it clear where you go to pay as the gates have “Private Keep Out” on them and they never showed themselves during our stay, so not a very friendly welcome, but there is a mobile number for the owner if you need help. Frome is approx 5 miles away and has a markets on Wednesday and Saturday we went to the Saturday Market, there is a park and ride or you can walk into the market from the car park where the medical centre is (free parking) bus is donations of about £1 per person. Stourhead NT and Longleat Safari Park are within driving distance.
